Devotional for Friday, June 9, 2017 with Pastor Jim Lucas
I’m so glad God doesn’t tire of me asking Him questions? or of any of us asking Him questions? When it comes to someone wanting to confront God about creation, God is not shocked, thrown off track, nervous, or taken a-back! In fact, He welcomes it from the one who doubts it the most. God knows where He stands and what He’s done. Here again is my personal response as a pastor, from my heart.
The very fact that we ‘confront’ God at the outset bears witness to the fact that He IS. Why talk to Him if He doesn’t exist??? From the very beginning He wanted us to know Him personally. He wanted us to have an intimate relationship with Him. In every human being ever created exists the DNA that draws us to Himself; to worship Him. When we don’t do that, there is friction. When we worship other gods, other man-made things, it doesn’t work. It goes contrary to the way we were made “in God’s image.” So it’s my desire to know more and more about Him. And how do I do that? He gave me His storybook; His Word, the Bible. I trust what I read there, because I trust Him. And why do I trust Him? because He’s proven Himself faithful, loving, caring, teaching, to me over and over again. I know He wouldn’t lie to me. That is not in His nature.
So when I read those incredible words – “In the beginning God created…” my heart leaps for joy! That excites me. I don’t dig my heals in the ground, arms folded gruffly saying, “no way, that can’t be so!!” When the Bible says, “And God said….and it was so...” that says to me that God is living, accessible, real, relational, not just to anything…but to ME. to ME! It says He’s sovereign; He reigns; He’s just; He’s organized; He’s, well…..creative! And He confirmed it when He shouted out into the heavens and earth….this is VERY GOOD! Nature applauded Him. The livestock, trees, creatures in the sea, the light and the lesser light..literally all of creation gave Him praise and adoration. They STILL do, and so do I!! The Word says (Genesis 2:7) “And the Lord God breathed into man the breath of life, and he became a living being“. Moms, dads, boys, girls, grandparents, cousins…we’re living beings because of God! And because of Jesus, when Adam and Even crossed the line of disobedience and fell into sin, I made the choice, like 1000’s have, to become a NEW CREATION in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17)!! And even more!! When I get to meet Jesus face to face, He promises..”I shall be like Him for I shall see Him as He is.” (I John 3:2).
I love His creation – the trees, flowers, mountains, oceans, parks, wildlife, birds, etc. I love being out in nature. But I tell you what: I will never worship the creation. As beautiful as it is, it is a reflection of Him. I choose to worship God. He alone is worthy to be praised. The only ‘evolving’ I will be doing is becoming more and more like Jesus. “Gal 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Luke 4:8 Jesus is in a conversation and says “It is written: worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.” So I will worship my Creator, my Redeemer, my Lover, my Life from now and through eternity; praise God!
